What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact forms

Contact forms are provided for convenience only, and are intended to allow visitors to facilitate an initial conversation on a particular topic of interest. Submitting a message through a contact form on this website does not establish or imply a solicitor-client relationship. Confidential information should not be submitted through a contact form.

When a visitor uses a contact form on this website to send us a message, we collect the data entered into the contact form (including the message itself) and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. Data submitted through a contact form is not retained on this website, but is forwarded in the form of email to our reception team to allow them to make contact with visitors.

When you use our online payment services, we will ask you to provide information including your name, billing address, shipping address, email address, phone number, and credit card/payment details. We also use cookies to keep track of orders in your “cart”.

We will use this information for purposes such as:

Credit card information (such as credit card number, expiry date, and card security code) is collected through a Moneris-hosted web service. We do not collect or retain credit card information.

What we share with others

We accept online payments through Moneris. When processing online payments, some of your data will be passed to Moneris, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this website may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How long we retain your data

We do not retain personal data about you in relation to this website, other than any data incidental to online payment processing and any messages you may have sent us through contact forms on this website.

Our professional regulations require us to retain certain records relating to client matters for a minimum period depending on the type of record and area of law. We must retain certain records relating to online payments (which are held as trust funds at least temporarily) for a minimum of 10 years from the final accounting transaction on the relevant client matter.

Data submitted through a contact form will be retained indefinitely to the extent that it is required to fulfil our legal, regulatory, and ethical obligations.

If you are a client of Lyons Law Corporation, we have legal, regulatory, and ethical obligations in respect of any data collected and retained during the course of providing legal services, including any data collected during online payment processing as detailed in this privacy policy. We have a duty of confidentiality in respect of such data, which may be also subject to legal privilege. If you have questions or concerns about the collection or retention of data, please contact the responsible lawyer for your matter.
